“In honor and memory of McCanna ‘Mac’ Sinise 1990-2024,” says the text inserted along with a picture of the young man, who had been battling a chordoma, a rare type of cancer that primarily originates in the spine, at the base of the skull, sacrum, and coccyx, for over five years.

Sinise had Mac with his wife, Moira Harris, 69, whom he has been married to since 1981. The two are also parents to Sophie, 35, and Ella, 32. In a message shared on the Gary Sinise Foundation’s website, the CSI: NY actor spoke about his son.

“As parents, it is very difficult to lose a child. My heart is with everyone who has suffered a similar loss and with anyone who has lost a loved one. We have all experienced it in some way. Over the years, I have met many families of our fallen heroes. It is heartbreaking and very difficult,” he said.

In 2018, the actor revealed the diagnoses for Mac and Moira, who was battling breast cancer. “Our family’s cancer battle lasted 5 and a half years and became increasingly challenging over time.”

“Although our hearts ache from his absence, we are comforted in knowing that Mac is no longer fighting and we are inspired and moved by how he handled it,” added Sinise, who also posted poignant pictures of the young man on the Foundation’s website.

The actor also noted that Mac was passionate about music, and his music videos can be viewed on Mac Sinise’s YouTube page. He also mentioned that Mac was working on an album titled “Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival,” which will be available at an unspecified date.

“Thank you, Mac. You did it. Resurrection and Revival will continue to live on. And so will you. Forever in our hearts. We were blessed to have you in our lives as a son, brother, and friend… and we will miss you and love you forever.”
